LIGHT THE WAY CHURCH -- SUBWOOFER 3
SUB PAGE 1 SUB PAGE 2 SUB PAGE 3 CHURCH BUILD HOME

During the construction of this box, my wife passed away. This sub will be a monument that I can go and visit on Sundays. (Beats a stone in the grass). Bev had suggested some subtle art work to enhance the appearance of the sub. Since the sun is part of the church's logo, I included it in the upper left. I used a small drill bit, and "punched" out the design, using a darkened version of the stain to color the holes.

Bev said, "If you are going to have the sun, shouldn't it shine on something?" I thought about that as I was building this. I found a local butterfly photo, and punched the outline into the box on the lower right. Her initials are the eyespots on the wings. Art, music, in a practical application -- I can think of no better memorial.

Here's the mouth, with Speakons and a quick coat of rattlecan. It was 102 and I snapped these just before we delivered it for Bev's memorial service. Little dust, little blood, a lot of sweat.

Most of the church woodwork is 150 year old reclaimed pine. They wanted something old and distressed looking. I use dark putty on the screw holes to give them the appearance of old nail holes. It was so hot and dry the day I stained, it dried before I could get the stain rubbed off. People really liked it, thought it was intentional. (Well, it partly was...)
